" The artist is the confidant of nature; flowers carry on dialogues
with him through the graceful bending of their stems and the
harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms.
Every flower has a cordial word which nature directs toward him."
-Auguste Rodin
ARTIST STATEMENT
It's always been about light and what it does to form. For many years I stayed with black charcoal and white paper to express what it was I wished to portray. Over time, I began to paint in color where a world of possibilities in creativity began.
The selection of my subject matter is deeply intuitive and driven by an emotional resonance or the thrilling transformation of color within a space. There is a captivating dance that constantly changes and invigorates my creative process. Even my sculptures are a balance of light and form. I have often said, I am a sculptor in a painter's body and a painter in a sculptor's body. Either way, they both present me with a physicality using both mediums. In a lot of my oil paintings, I use a rag to wipe out oil paint to achieve a desired effect, which in turn evokes a sculptural sensation.
My creative exploration remains an ever-evolving journey. I find myself continually learning and pushing forward, eager to see where light, shadow, and color will guide me next.
